Chapter 14 Test Submission Reminder

This is a reminder for students who have not yet submitted a hard copy of their Chapter 14 Test, which was due for submission yesterday, 4/24. Please submit an electronic copy/picture of the completed test to me as soon as possible by email or OG app. I plan to have Chpt 14 tests scored and returned to students on Monday, 4/29.

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we continued our study of the principles, postulates, and theorems that relate to geometric solids with our concentration on prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones. Students were introduced to Cavalieri's principle which states that if multiple three-dimensional objects have the same height and cross-sectional area over that entire height, they will have the same volume.

Students were assigned homework problems listed below. During our time in class, students were also provided with the opportunity to work on some of the assigned problems.

Mon 4/22:       Lesson 15.3: Problems 1-18; 38-41

Tues 4/23:      Lesson 15.4:  Problems 1-28; 34-37; 50-53

Wed 4/24:       Lesson 15.5: Problems 1-20; 33-37; Set III

Thurs 4/25:     Lesson 15.6: Set I

Fri 4/26:          Lesson 15.6:  Problems 34-35; Set III

Students should note that we are one lesson ahead of our posted schedule for the month.

We will conclude our study of geometric solids next week.

Blessing and have a great week!

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we concluded our study of Regular Polygons and the Circle with a review of Chapter 14 concepts. As part of our review, students played an old-school version of the game of Jeopardy based on concepts covered in Chapter 14. Students were provided the Chapter 14 Guidelines and Specifications sheet to be taken with their Chapter 14 test on Tuesday 4/16 (due for submission on or before 4/24). We also covered the first two lessons in Chapter 15 which relates to Geometric Solids. The following assignment schedule was given to students for this past week:

Mon 4/15:       Chpt 14 Lesson Review Set I

Tues 4/16:      Chpt 14 Lesson Review Set II and Chpt 14 Test

Wed 4/17:       Lesson 15.1 Set I

Thurs 4/18:     Lesson 15.2 Set II

Fri 4/19:          Lesson 15.2 Set I and Problems 43-47.

We will continue our study of Geometric Solids next week.

Blessing and have a great week!

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we concluded our study of Regular Polygons and the Circle with lessons leading us to the conclusion that as the number of sides of a regular polygon increases, the more and more it looks like a circle. This discovery by mathematician Archimedes led to the more accurate formulas for the area and circumference of a circle that we use today.

The following assignment schedule was given to students for this past week:

Monday 4/8: Lesson 14.3: Problems 1-40

Tuesday 4/9 Lesson 14.4: Set I

Wednesday 4/10 Lesson 14.5: Set I

Thursday 4/11 Lesson 14.6: Set I

Friday 4/12 Lesson 14.6: Set II

Next week we will review Chapter 14 concepts to prepare for the Chapter Test (scheduled to be taken on Tuesday, April 16). On Wednesday, April 17 we will begin our study of Geometric Solids.

Have a blessed week!

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we began our study of Regular Polygons and the Circle. After reviewing concepts from Lessons 14.1 and 14.2 covering theorems and definitions related to regular polygons and the perimeter of regular polygons, we worked on several problems together as a class. The following assignment schedule was given to students for this week:

Wed. 4/3: Lesson 14.1: Set I

Thurs. 4/4: Lesson 14.2 Set I

Fri. ⅘: Lesson 14.2 Set II

Students were also reminded of the Chapter 13 test submission date, on (or before) Wed. April 10.

Next week we begin covering the area of a regular polygon and extend our study to circles, the definition of pi, and the circumference of a circle.

On Monday 4/8, there will be an early dismissal at 12:10 due to the solar eclipse. Our Geometry class schedule will be 11:40 - 12:10.

Have a great week!

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we concluded our study of points of concurrency with the final 2 lessons of Chapter 13 as well as a review of Chapter 13 concepts. As part of our review, students played a team based game of Jeopardy based on concepts covered in Chapter 13. Students were provided the Chapter 13 Guidelines and Specifications sheet to be taken with their Chapter 13 test on Tuesday 4/2 (due for submission on or before 4/10.) The following assignment schedule was given to students for this past week:

Next week we will begin Chapter 14. The Lesson Plan Schedule for April will be provided in a separate post.

Meanwhile, have a blessed Easter Weekend and a joyous celebration on Resurrection Sunday.

Weekly Recap and Upcoming Week

This week we began our study of the concurrence theorems covering the first 4 lessons of Chapter 13. Students learned that no matter the shape of the triangle, several sets of lines related to the triangle are concurrent. As a part of this study, we looked at several other relations between points and lines. We also studied the different characteristics of cyclic polygons as well as characteristics of polygons circumscribed about a circle.

The following assignments were provided to students as homework for this week:

3/18: Lesson 13.1: Set I and Construction 9 (compass and straightedge required)

3/19: Lesson 13.2: Set I; Problems 29 - 31

3/20: Lesson 13.3: Set I

3/21: Lesson 13.4: Set I and Construction 10 (compass and straightedge required)

Homework assignments are due to be submitted on Monday, March 25.

Next week we will conclude Chapter 13 with Ceva’s Theorem, Napoleon's Discovery, related to equilateral triangles, as well as other related discoveries by famous mathematicians.

Blessings and have a great Week!

Temporary Email Issue

Hi, Parents and Students,

Unfortunately, my email address is temporarily out of order. It is not sending or receiving. The last email that I received was on March 8. I let Kati know and I am sure it will be returned to operation as soon as possible. I understand there were some system-wide issues, which occurred the week before spring break. For most, these issues were resolved but my email is still not functioning.

If you have any communication needs, please feel free to message me using the Oak Grove app.

My apologies for any inconveniences.

Mrs. Horenburg
