3rd Friday- Ms. L. Johnson

Posts

Friday, April 26th

We had a busy day Friday!

We had Spelling and Math. The Math was a review for Chapter 9 test on Monday/Tuesday. Please remember to send in your child's test on the day they attend.
Mrs. Maria read the fairy tale, Jack and the Beanstalk. Then the class wrote what they would have done to the giant to escape him. We then read those out loud while waiting on Friday U to begin.

Friday, May 3rd, the class will be doing a practice for their recorder performance the next Friday, May 10th. That will take up most of the time, but we will be doing a creative writing assignment over Frindle.

Friday, April 19th

It was great to have everyone back today, including Mrs. Maria!

After finishing Spelling, we worked on Math. Ms. Maria introduced division with remainders. We actually did page 146 from the Math workbook. I made copies, so your child won't need to do that page at home. ;)
The class then finished their bio poems that they had started last Friday. They turned out great! Ask your child to see it and see for yourself.

Have a great weekend!

Friday, April 12th

We had a great Friday today!

Besides our normal morning of Spelling and recorder classes, we made a bio poem about ourselves and painted. The poem and painting will be put together for a special project that will be finished next Friday, April 19th.
We also learned a new symbol for division and did a division worksheet. After that work was finished, we went to the castle and played "Scoot". We each had 1 question about a synonym or antonym. After 20 seconds, Mrs. Maria told us to "scoot" and we went to the next question.
To end our day, we read the book, The Crayon Man-the story of the invention of Crayola Crayons by Natascha Biebow. Then each child gave a new name for a crayon.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Friday, April 5th

We had a good Friday for our first Friday back in awhile!

We started off our morning with Spelling and then did Math. We had 4 pages to do, but we started out with pages 117 and 118 because those problems are like the ones that will be on the test on Monday/Tuesday. If they finished those 2 pages, they then did pages 115 and 116.
Once recorder class was done, we read about solar eclipses and the different types. We then made our own solar eclipses.
I read the book, There was an Old Lady who Swallowed some Books, by Lucille Colandro.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Friday, March 8th

We had a good Friday, but missed several people!

We worked on Spelling, including a worksheet alphabetizing 10 words from our Spelling book. We did a cut and paste subtraction page. We worked on helping verbs and wrote a compare and contrast paragraph.

We read the book, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka.

Until March 22nd! Have a grand break!!

Friday March 1st

It was a long day, Friday, or so it seemed. We had lots of Math and it took quite some time.
We learned a bit about Leap Year and made a chain of sequencing.
Because of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2nd, we read two of his books: One Fish, Two Fish and I Can Read With My Eyes Shut.
Next Friday we will be doing some measuring and writing about a stork and a fox.

Friday, February 23rd

Our Friday went by fast!

We did our Spelling and did multiplying by 10's. We also worked in groups finding synonyms and antonyms for particular words.
After recorder lessons, we read a short story, "The Fox and the Stork", and answered comprehension questions, studied idioms, talked about vocabulary and did a word search.
The book we read today was Hey Al, by Arthur Yorinks.

Next Friday, we will need our Math books, so make sure you send it to class.  ;)

Friday, February 16th

Friday was a great day!

We did our Spelling, some area and perimeter problems, and made our own Black Out Poetry.
After reading our poems to the class, we played outside for a bit before lunch.
The book we read was A Crankenstein Valentine by Samantha Berger.

Friday, February 9th

We had several people absent on Friday and we sure missed them!

We did Spelling, Grammar, and a Valentine heart art activity. The boys weren’t too enthralled with it because of the heart (Lol!) but they did it anyway. It was suggested to use it as a Valentine for their mom. ;)

I believe this week will go fast because of the fun activities the classes will be doing, so next Friday will be here before we know it!

Friday, February 2nd

This past Friday went by fast!
We started with Spelling and then did our Math review for our test on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
After Math, we painted with water colors, a spiderweb. We’ve been reading about spiderwebs with Charlotte and Wilbur, so creating beautiful spiderwebs was perfect!
We read the book, The Mitten, by Jan Brett.
I’ve attached some pictures of everyone painting.

Friday, January 12th

This Friday was filled with lots of different activities!
We started out with Spelling and went into apostrophes for Grammar and place value for Math.
We then made colorful snowflakes, which are hanging on my door, and we wrote a narrative based on the viewpoint of a snowflake.
Mrs. Maria read, I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff.
