Oak Grove will Close for Spring Break One Day Early
Dear Oak Grove Families,
We have all been following the news about the spread of COVID-19 in the world since December and in our own country over the past month. The headlines are dizzying, making it difficult to get a clear picture of what is happening. We are, however, in an unprecedented time with our governor declaring a state of emergency and the Federal government exercising emergency powers to combat the spread of the virus. The University of Tennessee and others have closed campus activities. Major sports leagues have suspended their seasons and tournaments are canceled.
Many of you have spoken to me about Oak Grove's preparedness to deal with coronavirus. I have taken these concerns and questions seriously and decided early on that this was not a decision we could make on our own, but we would be wise to follow the decisions made by Knox County Schools or other government entities. Up to now, this means we have remained open. However, with Knox County closing early for Spring Break, we will follow their lead and be closed tomorrow, March 13. I will be at both facilities tomorrow to review the cleaning and disinfecting that is already underway.
My current thought is that Knox County has closed early for cleaning because they do anticipate opening for class on March 23. However, as I mentioned this morning, this is a rapidly changing situation. Please monitor the forum, Facebook, and your email for updates toward the end of Spring Break.
The good news for us is that when we are unsure about the circumstances of our lives, our Lord in heaven always knows exactly what is going on. He promises to "work all things together for the good of those who love him" (Rom. 8:28). And he loves to hear the prayers of his people. We can trust that, as always, he has everything under control according to his wise plan for each of us.
Thanks for being part of the Oak Grove Community and have a good break!
