  Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative is pleased to announce the hiring of our new Curriculum and Instruction Specialist, Mrs. Lydia Zinn. Lydia is already a familiar face in the co-op as a long-time teaching parent and former board member. Lydia previously served as a teacher at Catholic High School here in Knoxville and as an instructor in the English Department at the University of Tennessee, where she also served on the Navigators Campus Ministry staff. An honors graduate of Hardin-Simmons University (BA) and the University of Tennessee (MA, MS), Lydia is committed to cooperative homeschool education. Oak Grove administration is happy to announce the plans we have for next year’s middle school program at Oak Grove. We want to make the middle school years a distinct and fruitful period in the educational lives of our students, and we have been doing some brainstorming and planning with middle school parents and as a staff team and board about how to make that happen. Children can preview Friday U at Oak Grove by taking a mini-Friday U course this semester! (3rd through 8th Grade) Seven Weeks of Learning Art from Famous Artists – Skyli Mullins Learn basic arts techniques while becoming familiar with the great masters you see, but do not know. Along with some fun art history, students will learn about different brushes, perspective, wood block artwork, painting on canvas, glass art, splatter painting and more. Friday U at Oak Grove Friday U at Oak Grove is our new elective program offering starting in the Fall of 2017. These fun, but academically robust classes will be open to any Oak Grove student as well as other homeschool students. A child registering for Friday electives will be able to choose 2 classes to take each semester they are enrolled. Registration for 2017-2018 Registration for current Oak Grove families is set for Tuesday, February 21. We will register families who have attended our Open Houses on February 22 and open registration up for everyone on February 23. Registration will take place in the Castle from 9 AM until 12 noon each day. Registration forms are attached (Oak Grove Registration Form 2017-18) or may be picked up in the office. Copies will also be available at the Blue Jay Desk (near the green canopy entrance) during drop off. Our Partnership Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative is a collection of home-schooling parents organized in a cooperative home-school model through which we hire tutors/teachers. This partnership assists and enhances our children’s educational experience by providing our children a social and classroom environment. The model combines the experience of professional educators and group learning with the flexibility and individual attention of homeschooling.
