Oak Grove Summer Camps 2018

We are very excited to have 19 summer camps offered this year! Each of these camps will have different teachers and will be at different times. Some camps are only 4 days (Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday) so please make sure to read the details. More information about each camp is listed below. These camps will all take place at Oak Grove Homeschool Cooperative which is located at 9908, Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37922.

Franco-Hispanic Camp

Dates: Every Monday in June (June 4, 11, 18, 25)

Time: 9am-2pm (with a break for lunch)

Description: This camp will be part French (in the mornings) and part Spanish (in the afternoons).

French- During this camp, your child will have the opportunity to discover the French language and the French culture with a native French instructor. We will learn some basic vocabulary (colors, days, months, animals, foods, etc.). We will also have fun discovering some French songs, French games, and French cartoons. Your children will have the chance to build in 3D a famous French building. A lot more surprises will come along with this fun camp!

Spanish- Spanish camp is a terrific way for kids to learn Spanish while enjoying summertime fun! The children will spend each class immersed in the Spanish language by playing games, story time, songs, arts, and crafts etc. Each day they will be moving from one activity to the next, including special “No English!” times, designed to provide an immersion experience while still allowing for a ton of fun!

STEM Camp

Dates: June 4-8

Time: 9am-1pm (with a break for lunch)

Description: Students will experience an exciting and engaging week together learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) through active exploration and invention, fun-filled projects, and plenty of games and competitions. Building and launching rockets, designing electrical circuits, making and playing with magnetic slime, constructing erupting volcanos, building mini hovercrafts, engineering zip-lines for Legos, constructing marshmallow catapults, and experimenting with glow-in-the-dark explosive reactions are just a few of the fun and exciting activities students will enjoy!  While enjoying a wide variety of engaging hands-on activities, students will be exposed to such topics as introductory engineering and scientific thinking, the use and importance of measurements and mathematics in science, and the relationship between math and science as well as technology. Using a student’s natural curiosity, we will explore a variety of scientific topics including chemistry, biology, and physics with plenty of cool hands-on, interactive science experiments and projects! Kids imagine, explore and create, and collaborate all while learning new and exciting STEM skills.

Soccer Camp

Description: Our fun soccer camp will improve your individual and team soccer skills. Age appropriate sessions teach soccer skills, technique, rules, sportsmanship, and coordination. All our lessons are structured but fun and are designed for school aged children of all abilities.

Exploring the Art of Art

Dates: June 4-8

Description: This camp will be specifically designed to explore fun new ways to create with different styles of art techniques while learning about the famous artist that used them, get a glimpse of the art history, and try out different techniques.  We hope your young artists will leave this week of camp inspired to create using new methods, gain a deeper respect for the artistic process and how they can bring their ideas to life.

Tennis Time

Dates: June 11-14 (Monday-Thursday only)

Time: 9am-11am

Description: Join us for a week of fun as we learn all about tennis!  Your child will learn the fundamentals that make a great tennis player.  We teach the forehand, backhand, volley and serve.  Your child will also learn how to keep score, the parts of the tennis racket and lines on a tennis court.  We also work to increase agility, hand eye coordination and other fine motor skills.  We offer tons of tennis drills and fun games too!!!

Hang Loose with Dr. Seuss

Dates: June 11-15

Golf Time

Dates: June 18-21 (Monday-Thursday only)

Description: Join us for a fun week of golf as we focus on growing your child’s love for the game.  We teach the fundamentals that make a great golfer.  We teach putting, chipping, driving, full swing, short game, physical fitness, rules knowledge, course etiquette, honesty, and integrity.

Supreme Law of the Land

Dates: June 18-22

Time: 9am-12pm

Description: The United States Constitution has been likened to a blueprint or a framework.  Yet, the Constitution is self-defined as the Supreme Law of the Land.  What does this mean?  Over the course of this camp, students will use problem solving and critical thinking skills, analyzing each Article and Amendment.  During the final day of the camp, students will be “appointed to the Supreme Court” and participate in role play court cases as they judge the constitutionality of real issues.

P. O. T. U. S. Camp

Dates: June 25-29

Time: 9am-12pm

Description: The office of the President of the United States (POTUS) has been held and shaped by some pretty dynamic individuals throughout history. How would they respond to our current political issues?  Over the course of this camp, students will complete a case study of the U.S. President of their choice.  Students will identify their POTUS’s foreign and domestic (economic and social) policies.  During the final day of the camp, students will remain “in character” as their POTUS and participate in a role play discussion/debate concerning current political issues in the United States.

Got Spirit? Lets’ Hear It!

Description: Calling all kids that love to cheer, tumble, stunt, and dance or want to learn how! This camp will be half cheerleading and half dancing. Students will learn the basics of both and will also learn routines to perform at the end of the week.

Taekwondo Camp

Dates: July 9-13

Description: At this camp, you will learn the basics of Taekwondo and some important self-defense. This class will actively engage students with skills that are both fun and practical. Each session will include stretches, techniques for punching and kicking, drills, and a review of the Tenets of Taekwondo. Students will learn the White Belt pattern and one-steps. We also include games that encourage balance, coordination, and team work. At the end of this session each student will be invited to practice at our school and have the chance to qualify and test for a yellow belt at Stephen Strouss Taekwondo Knoxville with the other members of our school.

Historical Context of the Bible

Dates: July 16-20

Time: 9am-12pm

Description: The Bible is His Story, God is the Author.  The accounts recorded in the Bible happened to real people, in real places, at real times in history.  Over the course of this camp, students will practice the principles of Biblical interpretation and application in light of its historical context. During the final day of the camp, students will create a Google Slides presentation about the historical context of a Biblical account to share with the class.

Praise and Plays

Dates: July 23-27

Time: 9am-12pm

Description: Praise and Plays is a camp of singing, dancing and acting to some of the greatest stories ever told…the stories of the Bible! The week will consist of singing fun songs about Jesus, creating and learning a real, live action play centered on a certain character or time in the Bible, and having a bunch of fun along the way. We hope to sing and learn during each day of camp, with the final day being devoted to rehearsing and ultimately performing for our friends and family the story we have practiced and learned about during the week. It is sure to be a week full of fun and adventure, as we Praise our Savior and put on a special play with our talented cast of wonderful actors and actresses.

Camposaurus Rex

Dates: July 23-27

Description: Do you want to dig up dinosaur fossils? Do you want to get to know the mighty Tyrannosaurus- Rex? Shouting out to all dino adventurers! Discover the lives of the dinosaurs through fun hands-on activities, experiments, games, and more. Come take a trip back to the true world of the dinosaurs!
