Puzzle for this week 1001 = A.N.
Two of the things we talk about in class quite frequently, besides science, is being attentive and respectful. I assume you want us to talk about these things, especially in a classroom setting. What I tell the kids is "you give me my time and you will have your time. If you don't give me my time, I will take your time." What that translates to, if a student is talking, etc. during my teaching/explaining time, then they will have to have a 15min. quiet/alone time during lunch. Each infraction adds 15min.
Please note: the kids have plenty of social time during the day. It is not a hardship for them to be attentive and respectful during instruction. The other teachers have this issue also. Some seem to have a hard time understanding what it means to not talk while I'm talking. I have instructed them that it's my time to talk, and they are not to talk unless they are talking to me about our subject and some literally will turn to their neighbor and talk. (They are welcome, more than welcome, to raise their hand if they have something they want to share with the class.)
We are starting a new semester and I need your help on this issue. It's not getting any better and I'm afraid it's sending the wrong message to our students what is required of them. Please speak to them about being courteous whenever anyone else is speaking, not just their teachers. Maybe this is how your house operates but know they will be getting into trouble at school. (I once had a student who was very sarcastic with me. Come to find out that she and her dad interacted like that all the time but it sure didn't work with me. :/ )
So, I will let you know if your child gets a time out. This is a great group of kids, but this has become an issue that needs attention. Feedback welcome. Blessings on you as you train up your children.
