Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 4/29 - 5/3

Students should watch Video 11.4 and complete the Chapter 11 Assessment before class on Wednesday, May 8th. 

This week, we completed our module on taxes by completing a Form 1040 based on a provided W2. Students learned how to read and interpret a W2, as well as how to transfer this information to a Form 1040. After this, we began Module 11, which discussed housing and real estate. Students learned some of the pros and cons associated with both renting and buying, and learned how to determine if they are financially ready to purchase a house.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 4/15 - 4/19

Students should complete the Chapter 9 Assessment by Monday, April 22. 

This week we learned about the many different types of insurance that are available, as well as how to avoid purchasing unnecessary insurance products.  Next week we will begin Module 10, which will discuss income and taxes.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 4/8 - 4/12

Students should complete the Chapter 8 Assessment by Monday, April 15. 

Assignment 7.5 - Scholarship Essay is due Monday, April 15. 

This week we completed Module 8, which introduced students to banking basics such as types of bank accounts and institutions, as well as how to balance a checkbook and important things to look out for when choosing a bank in which to open their accounts. Students should complete the Chapter 8 Assessment over the weekend, as well as Assignment 7.5.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 4/1 - 4/5

This week we completed Module 7, which covered a variety of topics pertinent to selecting a college and funding a college education. Students also began working on a mock scholarship essay that will help them be prepared for what to expect when they begin applying for scholarships.  

Students should complete the Chapter 7 Assessment by Wednesday, April 10. 

Assignment 7.5 - Scholarship Essay is due Monday, April 15.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 3/25 - 3/29

This week we completed Module 6 and began Module 7. Module 6 covered a variety of career paths and how to learn more about your chosen career path. Module 7 is about college planning and how to choose a college, prepare accordingly, and make wise financial decisions regarding student loans and other methods of paying for college. 

Students should watch Videos 7.3 and 7.4 before class on Wednesday, April 3.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 3/18 - 3/22

This week we started Module 6, which is all about how to choose a career and be successful in this career. This module covered information such as how to prepare for an interview, how to find out what career path they are suited to, and how to find mentors and learn more about their chosen field. Students do not have any additional homework over the weekend, but they should complete any unfinished videos or assignments. On Monday we will complete the chapter assessment as well as Activity 6.5, which will allow students to find out more information about a few potential career fields.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 2/26 - 3/1

This week we finished Module 4, which covered the topic of credit and debt. This module contained a lot of very useful information about how dangerous debt can be to long term financial security, and covered some of the basic information students will need to know to buy their first car. For the rest of the week, students should complete any unfinished assignments.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 2/19 - 2/23

REMINDER: Students should watch Video 4.3 before class on Monday, February 26. 

This week we finished Module 3, which covered the topic of saving, and started Module 4. This module allows students to learn about credit and debt, and how to be responsible borrowers. For the rest of the week, students should watch Video 4.3 on the Ramsey website. They should also complete any unfinished assignments.

Personal Finance Class Update: Week of 2/12 - 2/16

REMINDER: Students should watch Video 3.6 before class on Monday, February 19. 

This week we have learned about the topic of saving and covered some of the main reasons that we might need to save. These scenarios include saving for emergencies, for large purchases, and for building wealth in the future. For the rest of the week, students should watch Video 3.6 on the Ramsey website. They should also complete any unfinished assignments.   

On Monday, February 19, we will complete the Chapter 3 Assessment during class, and will also begin working on Activity 3.6. We will begin Module 4 on Wednesday, February 21, and all assignments relating to Module 3 will be due on February 21st as well.

Personal Finance Class Update - Week of 2/5 - 29

REMINDER: Assignment 2.4 (Part 2) and Chapter 2 Assessment are due on February 12. 

This week we introduced the topic of budgeting and covered how to make a zero-based budget. We also learned about some of the struggles that come along with making a budget and how to create a habit early so that it is easier later on in life. For the rest of the week, students should complete Activity 2.4 (Part 2) on the online portal. They should also complete any unfinished sections of their textbook. After finishing these, students should take the Chapter 2 Assessment.  

Our class is now set up on iGrade, and everyone should have received an invitation to join the class page. If you did not receive an invitation or are having trouble getting your account set up, please let me know and I will be happy to help in any way that I can.

Class Update - 1/31

This week we completed all the video lessons for Chapter 1. This chapter introduced the topic of financial literacy and provided a broad overview of some of the subjects that we will be covering in more detail throughout the semester. For the rest of the week, students should complete any unfinished work and sections of their textbook. After completing each section of the textbook, students should take the Chapter 1 Assessment.  

REMINDER: Assignment 1.2 and Chapter 1 Assessment are due on February 5.
