Hello Families!

We had a very busy week trying to cram as much WW2 stuff in as we could! In addition to our lessons we learned about the Tuskegee Airmen, the liberation of the concentration camps, the Manhatten Project and the beginning of the Cold War. We also got to really dig into the Traveling Trunk from East Tennessee History Museum as well as an artifact box that Tera Castile was able to get our class. The kids loved it all!

Because we still have a few things I’d like to be able to utilize-I am going to use Mon/Tues as a hands on day to do a few group activities and stations that the kids can go through to wrap up that time period. We will also be doing a packet on the Korean War. We will combine Lesson 114/115 on Wed/Thursday because they are short lessons that both pertain to baseball. This syllabus change DOES NOT affect your home days.

This week’s work:

Hands On History Day: WW2/Korean War edition
We will also play a review game to see how much they have learned.

First Home Day:

Hello All!!!

We had a really great week exploring WW2! Red Day 6th got a treat as Sawyer Little brought in his great grandfather’s items from his service in the war and Jacob Doubleday brought in his grandfather’s coat for us to see!  We all were happily surprised when the East TN History Museum dropped off their giant WW2 trunk to us a week early!! The kids really loved all of the different wartime posters. We will do more with the trunk this week.

SYLLABUS CHANGE!!!!

In order to really maximize the wonderful items in the trunk that we were lent and also a few group activities that I have planned-we are switching things up again this week so that I can teach more of WW2 topics, the Manhatten Project, the Korean War and the beginning of the contentious Cold War.

Hello Everyone!!

We had a great week learning all about how we are country of immigrants-built by the hard work and ingenuity of people who came to the US for freedom and opportunity. We also learned about the Roaring Twenties,The Great Depression,Prohibition and the rise of organized crime during that time period. On Friday we watched a scene from a Charlie Chaplin silent film, listened to the “Little Orphan Annie” radio show from 1935 and played a bingo game to see how much they retained from the week. I was super proud of how much they remembered!!

This week we are kind of going back into time for a bit to delve into the Gilded Age and the Robber Barons that made the era super prosperous before the crash, but then for the second half of the week we will concentrate on FDR’s New Deal and all of the ways the government tried to help America get back on her feet.

It’s also a chapel week and Valentine’s Day(and the dance)-so say a little prayer I can get all of that in and keep their attention! Haha

HEADS UP:
I will be switching the syllabus up a bit next week and the following to give us a little more class time to learn all about WW2 so keep your eyes open for that!
