Week Recap - 11/6 and 11/8

On Monday, we covered 3.8, which is on inverse functions.  She did really well with this in class.  It follows a very logical and consistent, step-by-step pattern, which lends itself to a less steep learning curve.  And once again, she remembered some of it from last year!

She was not able to attend class on Wednesday due to illness, but thankfully, I have a video from a previous co-op in which I cover the same lesson.  I have emailed her those links, and they are provided here as well -

4.1 Part 1 - https://youtu.be/dHyU3bglTro

4.1 Part 2 - https://youtu.be/sQK_LD1WyLE

I have uploaded an updated homework calendar for November to the class page in which the problems for each lesson have been populated.

I will provide Chapter 4 test, for which she can start to work as we progress through the chapter, on Monday.

Upcoming due dates:
  1. Mon, Nov 13 - E3.8 - #5, 7, 13-25 odd, 33, 35, 43, 51, 59
  2. Mon, Nov 13 - E 4.1 - #5, 7, 9-12 (all), 15, 19-23 odd, 31, 34-35, 41, 45, 49, 61, 65
  3. Wed, Nov 15 - Chapter 3 Test

Week Recap - 10/30 and 11/1

On Monday, we covered 3.7, which is on rational functions.  This is an exciting lesson for me because it takes something so complicated and reduces it down to simpler steps which allows us to graph some very complicated rational functions.  I know a couple of the steps (notably finding local behavior of end points as it approaches the vertical asymptotes) is fairly involved, but breaking the problem down into the steps makes solving the problem so much easier.

However, I could see that, by the end of the lesson on Monday, that Anna Grace didn't feel as confident as we would like.  So, we reviewed the same lesson on Wednesday, and I think she was better able to identify the steps and how to accomplish each step......even if some are more involved than others.

I have uploaded a new homework calendar for November to the class page, but the problems for each lesson have not yet been populated.  I will do update weekly so I can ensure that the appropriate amounts are assigned based on how each class progresses.

The first page of Chapter 3 test was given when we started chapter 3.  The full test was provided last week.  It is my hope that she has time to work on the tests each week based on the lessons covered.  The test will then be due 1 week following the last lesson's homework should be completed.  I will cover the last lesson on Monday, so the Chapter 3 Test will be due on Wednesday November 15.

Upcoming due dates:
  1. Mon, Nov 6 - E3.7 - # 7, 11-15 odd, 19, 25, 27, 31, 39, 41, 51, 55, 57
  2. Wed, Nov 15 - Chapter 3 Test

Week Recap - October 23 and 25

We continue to see recall from things learned last year (or earlier in the semester) during class time!  This makes me so excited every time it happens.

On Monday, we covered 3.5 on dividing polynomials, which was a bit of a review from last year.  We reviewed how to divide polynomials using long division, as well as using synthetic division.  We went so quickly through this lesson, that we started the next lesson.  3.6 is on finding the zeros of polynomial functions, which uses the Rational Zero Theorem and the Complex Conjugate Theorem.  We also covered the Remainder and Factor Theorems.  We finished by learning Descartes Rule of Signs, which reveals all of the possible positive real zeros, negative real zeros, and complex zeros.

I did not complete the Chapter 3 Test, but instead gave her just a piece of it that covers what we have completed in chapter 3 thus far.  I will upload another portion of the test this weekend.  The entirety of the test will be due a week after we finish Chapter 3.

When we return to class on Monday, October 30, the following lessons are due:  Lesson 3.5 and 3.6 (See updated October calendar for specific problems assigned).
