Hello and Happy Sunday!
Spelling:
We completed lesson 32A and 32C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, bossy r chunks and silent letters.
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 121 and Day 123. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, the students completed a Storymaker activity. Lastly, the students discussed and answered questions about chapters 8-13 of Because of Winn-Dixie and brainstormed for their rough draft. Please have your student complete the reading for chapters 14-20 before the 1st co-op day this week.
My plan is to watch the movie and compare and contrast the book and movie using a Venn diagram for the final project. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the movie. :) There will be no final project your child will need to complete at home.
Math:
For math, we completed pages 149-151 which focused on Adding Mixed Numbers. Also, we completed pages 154-155 which focused on Equivalent Fractions. Fractions can be difficult, but they are dong so well! We are going to continue to review these each morning.
Science:
On Monday, we had our experiment from last week where learned about organic compounds. We used multiple different types of foods and placed them on a piece of paper to see the fat residue. They seemed to really enjoy this experiment! On Wednesday, we learned about alcohols and esters. For our experiment, we used isopropyl alcohol, orange peels, and clove essential oil to make perfume. After letting them sit for a week, I will give each student a small dab to let them smell the perfume. Lastly, we filled out a lab report sheet and answered questions together.
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "The Postwar World" and "Television and Music." We read, answered questions and defined vocabulary words. The kids loved this section. We listened to a few songs by Elvis Presley and I shared with them some of my family history and how I am related to Sam Phillips.
Reminders:
