Hello and Happy Sunday! 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 32A and 32C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, bossy r chunks and silent letters. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 121 and Day 123. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, the students completed a Storymaker activity. Lastly, the students discussed and answered questions about chapters 8-13 of Because of Winn-Dixie and brainstormed for their rough draft. Please have your student complete the reading for chapters 14-20 before the 1st co-op day this week.
 
My plan is to watch the movie and compare and contrast the book and movie using a Venn diagram for the final project. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the movie. :) There will be no final project your child will need to complete at home. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 149-151 which focused on Adding Mixed Numbers. Also, we completed pages 154-155 which focused on Equivalent Fractions. Fractions can be difficult, but they are dong so well! We are going to continue to review these each morning. 
 
Science:
This week we learned about alcohols and esters. For our experiment, we used isopropyl alcohol, orange peels, and clove essential oil to make perfume. After letting them sit for a week, I will give each student a small dab to let them smell the perfume. Lastly, we filled out a lab report sheet and answered questions together.
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "The Postwar World" and "Television and Music." We read, answered questions and defined vocabulary words. The kids loved this section. We listened to a few songs by Elvis Presley and I shared with them some of my family history and how I am related to Sam Phillips.

Hello and Happy Sunday! What a fun, busy week it was! The field trip was a blast! Thank you for letting me tag along! I am so glad I was able to go! :)
 
Spelling:
We completed lesson 31A and 31C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, bossy r chunks and silent letters.

First, we completed Daily Grams Day 117 and Day 119. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. For math, we completed pages 142-143 which focused on Mixed Numbers. Also, we completed page 146 which focused on mixed numbers and improper fractions. They did very well with both of these lessons.
 
Science:
For science, we learned about organic compounds. We answered questions and defined vocabulary words together. For our experiment, we used multiple different types of foods and placed them on a piece of paper to see the fat residue. They seemed to really enjoy this experiment! 
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "America Enters the War" and "The War Ends." We read, answered questions and defined vocabulary words. We are one lesson behind. I don't want to go too fast. However, I plan to catch up over the next couple weeks.

Hello and Happy Sunday! I apologize for the late posting today. I have had technology issues all afternoon. 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 30A and 30C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, bossy r chunks and silent letters. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 113 and Day 115. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, the students completed a Storymaker activity. Lastly, I shared with them the Because of Winn-Dixie final project. My plan is to watch the movie and compare and contrast the book and movie using a Venn diagram. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the movie. :)
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 120-122 which focused on Triangles. This was a harder lesson for them due to drawing the different types of triangles using their protractors. I plan to practice identifying the types of triangles more. Also, we completed pages 137-138 which focused on fractions. They did very well with this! 
 
Science:
For science, we continued to learn about acids and bases. We completed an acids and bases sorting page for a review. They did very well with this!  Also, we had our experiment this week with one of the 3rd grade classes which was a "Lemon Volcano." Just by the name of the experiment, we knew they would absolutely love it! :)
 
History:
For History, we began studying WWII. We discussed vocabulary words and had great discussions over the topic. They also had their TN History experience on Thursday led by Mrs. Jessica and Mrs. Brittany. Big shout out to them! The kids loved it!

Hello and Happy Sunday! 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 28D and 29B where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, bossy r chunks and silent letters. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 109 and Day 111. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity. Lastly, the students presented their map projects and did absolutely amazing! I was so impressed with how creative they were!
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 100-101 which focused on Drawing Angles and pages 112-116 which focused on Parallel and Perpendicular Lines. Also, the syllabus stated that pages 102-106, 110-111 and 116 would be addressed in class. However, we only had time for the 4 pages under the 2nd co-op day. I apologize if this inconveniences anyone.
 
Please send them with their protractors again this week! 
 
Science:
For science, we continued to learn about acids and bases. First, the students colored in a pH scale and placed many items on their scale according the their number. For our experiment, we used cabbage paper, ammonia, water, and vinegar. Using the cabbage paper as our indicator, we tested the ammonia, water and vinegar to see what color it changed the cabbage paper. The students looked at a pH scale and made their predication for each liquid. They did very well! 
 
History:
For History, we focused on lesson titled "FDR's New Deal." We read, answered questions, and discussed it together! We also defined many vocabulary words in Chapter 5.

Happy Easter! What a beautiful Easter it has been! I hope everyone is enjoying their day! 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 28A and 28C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, consonant chunks, vowel chunks, and silent letters. Since this lesson required them to find all the features, it took them quite a while. However, they did very well! 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 106 and Day 108. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, the students discussed, answered questions about chapters 13-17 of Tiger Boy and brainstormed for their rough draft. We did not get to our Storymaker activity this week to make time for our Easter party.
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 90-92 which focused on Lines, Rays, Angles. They did awesome! Also, we completed pages 97-99 which focused on Angle Terminology. 
 
Science:
For science, we learned about acids and bases. First, we read a passage discussing acids and bases. For our experiment, we used cabbage juice, lemonade, water, and a mason jar. First, we put 1 tablespoon of water and 1 tablespoon of cabbage juice into the jar. Next, we put 1 tablespoon of lemonade into the water and cabbage juice. We saw the color change to red instantly. We were amazed! Then, we discussed why the color changed, discussed vocabulary words and the students wrote a paragraph explaining what happened in the experiment and why.
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "The New Era in Tennessee" and "From the Crash to the Depression." We read, answered questions, and discussed these together!

April 10th/11th- A Tennessee History Experience (The World War Era)
 
Final Project- The students have a final project that will be due April 3rd/4th. For this project, the students will make a map of the town where they live and pretend there is a treasure they need to find. The treasure can be whatever they choose it to be. This can be as creative as they want! They do not have to write a paper for this project. This can be done on a poster, anchor chart paper, a regular piece of paper, etc. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the project.

Bring a protractor on March 27th/28th

Hello and happy Sunday! :) I hope everyone had a great and restful spring break! I loved hearing about all the kiddos adventures over the break! 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 27A and 27C where we focused on tricky y guy, endings, and silent letters. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 102 and Day 104. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity. Lastly, the students discussed, answered questions about chapters 9-12 of Tiger Boy (pages 22-24, 30) and brainstormed for their rough draft. Please have your student complete the reading for chapters 13-17 before the 1st co-op day this week. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 70-71 which focused on Finding Factors. They did very well! Also, we completed pages 84-86 which focused on Problem Solving: Area of Rectangles and Perimeter. We completed the majority of this lesson together as a class. It was a more challenging lesson, but they seemed to have a good understanding! We will continue to practice this more. 
 
Science:
For science, we learned about crystals. First, we read a passage discussing crystals. For our experiment, we used a pipe cleaner, pencil, hot water, borax, and a mason jar. First, we wrapped our pipe cleaner onto the pencil and placed it upside down in the jar. Next, we put 1 cup of hot water and 9 teaspoons of borax into the jar. We started to see results quicker than we thought. However, we have kept it in the classroom and will wait for more results this coming week! They loved this experiment!
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "Migration and Suffrage" and "A New Decade, A New America." We read, answered questions, and discussed these together! We talked about the "Roaring 20's", listened to "The Blues", and even talked about Robert Neyland and the University of Tennessee Football Team. They really enjoyed it! 
 
For History this week, we will be learning about the Scopes Trial which discusses evolution.

Hello and happy Sunday! :)
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 26A and 26C where we are focusing on tricky y guy. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 98 and Day 100. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity! Lastly, the students discussed and answered questions about chapters 5-8 of Tiger Boy. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 60-62 which focused on Problems to Solve. These were more challenging word problems, but they did well! Also, we completed pages 66-67 which focused on Prime Numbers. We filled out a different table than what was in the book on page 67. The students took this sheet home with them to have as a resource if needed. We will continue to practice prime numbers when we return from break.
 
Science:
For science, we learned about separating mixtures. First, we reviewed what mixtures and solutions are. For our experiment, we separated multiple different kinds of mixtures in groups. We separated by tools, density and magnetism. 
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "The Progressive Era" and "Becoming a World Power" from chapter 4. We read, answered questions and defined vocabulary words.

March 10th-16th - Spring Break

Hello and happy Sunday! What a fun-filled week we have had! The History Fair was amazing! All the students did so great! I was so proud of all of them! I also have so many new locations to explore in Tennessee now! So much fun! 
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 25A and 25C where we are focusing on silent letters. 
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 94 and Day 96. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity! Lastly, the students discussed and answered questions about chapters 1-4 of Tiger Boy. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 52-53 which focused on Average and pages 55-57 which focused on Finding Fractional Parts with Division. The students did very well with both averages and fractions. We will continue to practice these for morning work in the coming weeks. 
 
Science:
For science, we learned about mixtures and solutions. First, we defined the two words and discussed examples for each. For our experiment, we had our mixture trail mix snack. We discussed why and what makes trail mix a mixture and then they were able to eat it! They loved it! 
 
History:
For History, we had out Traveling Trunk Lesson over Life of a Civil War Soldier. They were able to try on a soldier uniform, read about Tennessee soldiers, and look at objects a soldier would have had during that time. It was very neat! Due to time, on the 2nd co-op day, we did not get to the Tennessee's First Century in the book.

Hello and happy Sunday!
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 24A and 24C where we are focusing on consonant chunks, bossy r chunks, and vowel chunks.
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 90 and Day 92. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity! Lastly, we briefly discussed the next project they will complete which is to create a map. More information on this project to come.
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 42-43 which focused on More Long Division and pages 47-48 which focused on Remainder Problems. They are continuing to do very well with long division! Many students are starting to work on very big long division problems when they are able to throughout the day! I love it! 
 
Science:
For science, we learned about oxidation and reduction. First, we defined the two words and discussed examples. Next, for our experiment, we used apples and lemon juice. Each table received an apple and part of a lemon. The students put lemon juice on one half of the apple and left the other half untouched. Later, we checked our apples multiple times throughout the day to observe the changes. Lastly, the students discussed the difference between the two halves and what caused the changes. They did awesome! 
 
History:
For History, we focused on lessons titled "The Second Civil War" and "Revolutionary Growth" from chapter 3. We read and answered questions and defined vocabulary words.

Spelling:
We completed lessons 23A and 23C where we are focusing on consonant chunks, bossy r chunks, and vowel chunks.
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 86 and Day 88. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity! Lastly, we continued to discuss what makes a good speaker and audience members and peer edited our speeches again. Since I had to be out Wednesday and Thursday, there were a few speeches I did not get to read and give feedback to. If you would like me to read over your child's speech, please send it in this week and I would be happy to read over it! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the project. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 34-35 and 38-39 which focused on long division. They are doing very well with long division. I am so proud!
 
Science:
For science, we learned about chemical reactions. Our experiment was called "Elephant Toothpaste" and I heard that they loved it! 
 
History:
For History, we had our History Experiences (The Civil-War Era) which were awesome! Shout out to the amazing parents who made them so fun! Next, the students read and answered questions over "To Reconstruct a Nation."

Hello and happy Sunday everyone! :)
 
Spelling:
We completed lessons 22A and 22C where we are focusing on bossy r.
 
Language Arts:
First, we completed Daily Grams Day 82 and Day 84. The students completed this for their morning work and we checked and discussed it later in the day. Next, we completed a Storymaker activity! Lastly, we discussed what makes a good speaker and audience members. We made two anchor charts with tips for both the speaker and audience members. Later, the students brought in their own rough draft of their speech to practice and peer edit. The students were paired up with a partner and were given a checklist to complete based off their partner's speech. They did very well and gave good constructive criticism to their partner. I was able to read a few students' speeches and give feedback. If I did not get to your child's speech, I will be finishing them this week. Please have your child bring their speech on the first co-op day this week! Let me know if you have any questions regarding the project. 
 
Math:
For math, we completed pages 26-27 which focused on long division and remainders. Next, we completed pages 29-31 which continued to focus on long division.
 
Science:
For science, we learned about chemical changes. Our experiment involved coins, coke and vinegar. We started the experiment the first co-op day and had good results on the following co-op day. They seemed excited about the results!
 
History:
For History, we read and answered questions over lessons titled The Fighting Begins and The Fight Continues.
