Friday we completed Spelling, Math Review, We talked about Joy and painted while we listened to worship music, and I introduced Andy Warhol’s Pop Art!

2nd Grade Wk 9 Friday

We studied the space shuttle, saw a video about the Discovery shuttle, and watched SpaceX launch their crew. Students constructing rockets (paper airplanes) that we launched in the castle. Our class competed with Mrs. Latham’s in a friendly rivalry. We then measured the distance of the top 3 winners from each class for a “fly off”. Wyatt was our champion and launched his rocket more than 384 inches! It was great fun!

Friday 2nd Grade Wk 5 Spring

Friday Students flexed their creativity with an outer space “Finish the Picture”; Spelling Lesson 22D; they have been using a cipher wheel to decode facts about space. They took those today (ciphers stay in class- we will re-use), we practiced subtracting 10, and worked with partners on a solar system scavenger hunt

3.Students did a wonderful job in Art. They worked to create their own version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night with Yarn! It was a difficult, tedious task that challenged them but they exhibited grit & dedication. They turned out beautifully. Those that didnt go home Friday will come home Monday or Tuesday.
 

2nd Grade Friday Week 10

On Friday, We reviewed what we remembered about Anatole before completing an iSpy page- France edition

We completed Spelling 10E

We studied Vincent Van Gogh and tried our hand at Sunflowers in oil pastel

Upcoming Spirit Week Schedule

Tuesday, October 31st: Dress Up Day. Costumes are fine as long as they aren’t scary. I will be looking to children’s literature as inspiration for my costume that day. In addition to the curriculum on the schedule , we will have a treat that day and I will plan a pumpkin themed craft.

Thursday, November 2nd: Pajama Day. YES! (Finally, a valid excuse to stay in my robe & slippers all day)

Friday, November 3rd: Wacky Day- Whatever that means to you!

 

2nd Grade Friday Week 9

Today: Devotion about the strength God gives us & how wonderful our bodies are that they are made to fight viruses.
Art: We finished our mini Rembrabdt Books. We looked at 4 more paintings by him.
Math: Math Factor Triangles
Spelling: 9E
Literature/ Social Studies Connection: The Cherokee alphabet, a coded message, and their name in Cherokee

2nd Grade Friday Week 8

Devotion about Photography of Black Holes, and how people working together can accomplish so much more than working alone.
 
Math: Addition Dice Game
 
Spelling: Lesson 8E
 
Regions: Rapa Nui & the Moai Sculptures. We watched a brief video about Easter Island. Students learned so much and were really engaged. We made miniature Moai. This was a great connection to volcanic island & rocks as well as South American Landmarks. I briefly tied this in to reaching people with God's Word all across the world. If I had more time I would have shared the following story from Wycliff Bible Translators:
 
Art: We learned a little more about Rembrandt. Next week we will complete our mini book & art project.

2nd Grade Friday Week 7

All things Mariposa!
Today, we painted researched, wrote about, shared, designed & painted BUTTERFLIES!
 
Our Devotion was about hikers that climb Mt. Everest, and how they use a sherpa or guide to help along the way. They needed an expert, someone that had traveled before, to lead them in the correct path. Isn't this a beautiful picture of Christ walking with us in life's challenges?
 
We also had fun with a new math review game "Apple Sum" where they partnered up and circled sums of 10.
 
And we completed Lesson 7E for Spelling.
